Accident and Illnesses are covered with all Rainwalk policies. This includes broken bones, prescription medications, cancer treatments and more. See a more comprehensive list on our Coverage page.

Dogs or cats that reside with you are eligible for coverage. For dogs, the eligible age is 7 years and younger; for cats, 9 years and younger. Minimum age is 6 weeks for cats and dogs.

There are no ineligible breeds.

Rainwalk will insure your pet for their whole life. No matter what comes up along the way, you can rest assured knowing that we’ll have you and your pet’s back. Your pet must be under 7 years old to qualify for a new policy.

Quotes are valid for 60 days.

Yes. Unless you get your policy with Rainwalk at the shelter where you adopt, a 14-day waiting period applies to coverage for accidents and illnesses. Once the waiting period has passed, your policy goes into full effect.

There is no one size fits all solution for pet insurance policies. Rainwalk has plans ranging from Silver to Platinum. Each of our plans are fully customizable, allowing you to choose your own deductible, annual limit, and coinsurance.

Choose any combination of these three factors to customize your pet’s policy:
Deductible $100 – $750
Coinsurance 70% – 90%
Annual Benefit $5,000 – $20,000

Like any insurance company, Rainwalk takes care of the bills that would otherwise be unaffordable. We recommend considering what amount of unplanned expenses would put a serious dent in your bank account. Then, start there as you choose a deductible and annual benefit.

You can reach our team any time, and we can help you make sure your coverage is right for you.

Treatment for behavioral problems is covered if performed by a veterinarian or through a written referral by a veterinarian to an Applied Animal Behaviorist, Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist (CAAB), Associate Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist (ACAAB) or Diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists (Dip ACVB).

Yes. Conditions that your pet may be prone to are covered like any of others. View our coverage page for a more expansive list of covered conditions.

Yes. All policies cover cancer.

Yes. Surgeries related to a covered condition are always covered. Cosmetic surgeries are not covered.

Yes. Medication prescribed to treat a covered condition will always be covered.

Veterinary exam fees are covered if they relate to a covered condition.

Pre-existing conditions are not covered by any pet insurance provider.

There are two ways pre-existing conditions are established: First, we use waiting periods after coverage is signed up for. Second, if there are questions about the nature of a condition and whether it is pre-existing, our claims team will reach out to the attending veterinarian of the pet and get their professional medical perspective on when the condition occurred.

However, we will note that Rainwalk has a Curable Conditions Clause in all our policies. Here’s what that means: if your pet was treated for a condition and that treatment cured the condition, you’re still covered if it comes up again. Many insurers will consider a condition that occurs twice pre-existing even if it was cured with treatment!

Veterinary Telehealth is a complementary benefit of all Rainwalk policies through First Vet.

Just like for humans, Veterinary Telehealth allows you to see a licensed vet from the comfort of your home. Easily schedule an appointment through your Rainwalk account online – no claims needed! Our friends over at FirstVet are available 24/7 at no additional cost for all Rainwalk policy holders.

Like other pet insurance companies, Pre-Existing Conditions are not covered. Rainwalk does not cover any expenses from routine care. These are expenses you can budget for like food, flea & tick prevention, and grooming.

Policy

Each Rainwalk policy has an annual deductible. Each year, after you pay the annual deductible for covered care, we start reimbursing you according to your policy. Our policies have between 70%-90% reimbursement rates.

For example, if your annual deductible is $250, after you have paid the first $250 towards your pet’s care, we will take it from there up to your maximum annual benefit.

The maximum annual benefit is the maximum dollar amount of what Rainwalk will reimburse you for.

No. Pet Insurance works a little bit differently than human health insurance. In order to give you the option to visit any vet you trust, Rainwalk reimburses you. Plus, we pay out based on the actual value of the itemized bill from your vet, not what we think it should be.

Any costs you have towards covered conditions qualifies toward your annual deductible.

Never. As long as your pet is enrolled before age 7 for dogs, or age 9 for cats, and you do not let the policy lapse or expire, we will never drop your pet. Pets are family and we never turn our back on family.

There is no lifetime maximum benefit. Rainwalk will continue to pay out your maximum annual benefit for the lifetime of your pet.

Claims

We pride ourselves on having a quick and easy claims process. Simply snap a picture of your itemized invoice from your vet. Then, upload the picture to our online claim portal. That’s it.

Here’s a short video on how it works!

Rainwalk calculates reimbursements based on the real bill you get from your vet, not what we think it should be.

Reimbursements depend on the level of coverage you choose for your plan. For example, assume you chose a plan with 80% reimbursement. If you get a bill for $1,000 and have already paid the annual deductible, then Rainwalk will reimburse you 80% or $800 out of the $1,000 bill. This means you’re responsible for only $200.
